Khmer Monk’s blessing ceremony

Traditional Monk’s Blessing ceremony is a unique feature in Cambodian culture. During the ceremony, a monk will chant blessings and sprinkle holy water over you, and wish you a happy life, and finally fasten a sacred bracelet around your wrist. The holy water mixed with lotus and jasmine is believed to wash away bad luck, negative thoughts and bring peace to your soul.

What to do?

  •  Visit an ancient and little-known pagoda
  •  Chat with a Cambodian monk and get blessed by him
  •  Learn about Cambodian religion and beliefs

When and how to participate?

During religious festivals like Pchum Ben or the Khmer New Year, pagodas become flooded with both local people and tourists. Everyone comes there to participate in the ceremony. Travelers are recommended to book a monk in advance before taking part in the ceremony if they want to get blessed in a pagoda in Siem Reap, Phnom Penh or Battambang.
