THE CULTURAL TRACES OF LAOS 10 DAYS
The discovery of mysterious temples in Luang Prabang
At the border of Thailand and Cambodia and the confluence of the Mekong, lies Pakse, the capital of the province. Close to the Lao-Japanese Mekong Bridge, the city quickly became commercially important and a popular tourist destination.
The city of Pakse has preserved many historical buildings as colonial houses or the royal residential palace now turned into a hotel. It seems as if time has stood still in Pakse and in southern Laos, a quiet and nonchalant atmosphere prevails. Practice patience, local people do not hurry, they enjoy the here and now.
The Angkorian Wat Phou temple is located about 40 kilometers south of Pakse. From our point of view, it’s an essential site of the region. This site keeps up with the temples of Angkor, with its stone construction and a magnificent view of the surrounding countryside. From the 6th century, it is a magnificent example of a Khmer Hindu temple with its unique structure, even if it had been a Buddhist temple. Wat Phou is a relatively well preserved site that perfectly achieves a historic transition on a combined journey between Laos and Cambodia.
Bolaven plateau is one of the must-see sites on a trip to Laos. The region is the perfect place to enjoy the coolness of the Laotian mountains, swim in the crystal clear water of the many rivers and to taste one of the best coffee in the world. There are magnificent waterfalls, Tad Lo and Tad Phan being the most impressive. Fertile heart of Laos and its main agricultural region, Bolaven plateau is also a vast jungle area, a multi-ethnic place, a territory of movement of goods with the rest of the country and beyond.
Considered one of the best in the world, the Bolaven plateau’s coffee is exported to several countries. Small family plantations that can be visited produce an exceptional coffee. Take the opportunity to meet coffee experts who will teach you how to tell the difference between robusta and arabica, organic and non-organic, drying techniques or planting seedlings.
