The Festival of Lights or Lai Heua Fai is the way that Laotians pay homage to Mekong river for everything it’s brought to this country. Laotians believe that the napas (water spirit) will bring good luck to the people. In the festival, the cities are filled with sparkling lights, lanterns and candles are everywhere. People also decorate boats and parade through Luang Prabang and eventually launch onto Mekong river.
